A Saudi research team came up with the invention of an electronic Quran for the blind that converts fixed Braille characters into animated ones, which are formed electronically according to the verses of the Holy Qur’an, Arabic letters, and the page, in a design that helps the blind to access the pages, chapters, and parts quickly and easily.

The invention of the electronic Qur’an raises the difficulties faced by the blind in reciting the Holy Qur’an with paper copies printed in Braille, as the paper copies of the blind consist of 6 very large volumes, which are difficult to carry and obtain, not to mention their heavy size and the inability to access pages or chapters easily.

The research team, headed by a doctoral researcher in knowledge management at King Abdulaziz University, Mishaal Al-Harsani, followed this innovation from the time it was an idea until turning it into a tangible reality and a product ready to spread throughout the Arab-Islamic world, starting from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The innovation of the electronic Quran for the blind won second place in the “Innovate” competition at the level of the Kingdom, and a number of entities were honored when it was in the prototype stage and before it was manufactured and the idea was turned into reality, in cooperation with Wadi Makkah at Umm Al-Qura University and Wadi Taibah at Taibah University.
